The Methodist Family
In addition to being a remarkable scholar, teacher and inspirational preacher John Wesley was also a brilliant organiser. Many of his constitutional ideas for the church are still the essence of the Methodist Church today - not just in this country but throughout the world. His blueprint for the Methodist Church is still the model of organisation that we work by today.

The Barton and Brigg Circuit
|
Each local church belongs to a circuit (except that in a very few instances a church is a circuit on its own). The Circuit has always been at the heart of Methodism. Brigg Methodist Church belongs in the Barton and Brigg Circuit.
Over the years many changes have taken place in the structure of the circuit. In recent years a major change was the bringing together of the Barton upon Humber and the Brigg Circuits in 2002. This means that the circuit is large in area but growing in fellowship and co-operation. The Circuit has its own website and you can access it from our Links page.
The Circuit Leadership team, under the guidance of the Superintendent Minister, Rev Gillian Belford, is charged with guiding and encouraging the churches of the circuit.

The Lincoln and Grimsby District of the Methodist Church
|
Methodist churches also belong to a District, and our allegiance is to one of the largest in area in the UK. Barton and Brigg Circuit is in the north of the District and borders on Yorkshire (or it would if the River Humber was not in the way). In the south the District includes Bourne and Spalding, almost into Norfolk!
The District is under the guidance of the Chairman of the District, Rev Dr David Perry. Twice a year representatives of the Circuits meet in the Synod, the business meetings of the District.

The Methodist Church in Great Britain
|
Methodist Churches in this country belong to what has always been known as a Connexion - a group of congregations large in number but united in fellowship and worship. The fellowship and the leadership of the Connexion is summed up in the Conference, an annual gathering of representatives of all the Districts of the Connextion. The President of Conference, elected annually, is the spiritual leader of the Methodist Church in this country.
