Action Aid

We believe that we are engaged in God’s mission and we support mission in a number of ways, accepting our responsibility to preach and live the Gospel of Jesus.

Practical support and concern is expressed through a charity called:

Pat Hookham explains our involvement -

“Our Church members sponsor six children through the charity Action Aid, having now taken on Wadson, age 8 in September 2006.  All "our children", who live in Mozambique, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Brazil, India & Haiti are from poor, remote areas where water often has to be carried for several kilometers, usually by women & children.  Diet is poor and farmers do not produce surplus food to sell.

Education is not available to all children, schools may be too far away, many teachers do not have enough qualifications and many schools are in a state of disrepair.   Through Action Aid we are helping these children and their families to have easier access to clean water, improved diet and better healthcare. Schools can be renovated and basic and vital teaching equipment can be provided.  The knowledge and skills that children gain at school are important factors in helping them build a life free of poverty.  The annual amount of sponsorship for each child is £180.00 (£1080.00 for the six children). We receive regular reports from the community co-ordinators, together with letters and pictures from the children showing their progress.”
